Wandertrilogie Allgäu - Himmelsstürmerroute 2021

The first stage of the hiking trilogy Allgäu - Himmelsstürmer-Route, from Halch to Kenzenhütte, was really tough ... Both in terms of fitness requirements and perception, because there were so many great impressions that it was actually for three stages would have been enough.

Since the 15 km of the first stage of the Himmelsstürmer Route were not enough for us, we wanted to do a bonus round to the Kenzenkopf and possibly even further.

After yesterday's search for our limits, we continued to search today and found what we were looking for ... Since there was an alternative route for the second stage of the Himmelsstürmer Route, for hikers who want to go a little higher, of course I couldn't resist 😇

After the two tough first stages, it was a leisurely hike today, on the way from Oberschwangau to Füssen (and another piece of stage 4 towards Pfronten). Due to the closure of the Marienbrücke, we did not start the stage at the Tegelberg station, as originally planned.

A wonderful hike in wonderful weather. Started at around 4 degrees and ended at around 20 degrees 😆



Wonderful views on the way from Füssen to Pfronten (great view up to the Zugspitze) and 18 km that was tough again. In any case, it felt like 30 km in the Bergisches Land 😉

Today it was again a matter of climbing a summit and conquering over 900 m. The Alpspitze, climbed through the Höllschlucht, was easier for us today than the mountains before. The legs are probably getting better slowly 😎

We would have liked to have completed the sixth stage in one go, but the stage bus connections on weekends are unfortunately unusable, so we completed part 1 as a round today.

Today the completion of our sixth stage, from Gerats to Rettenberg. We parked in Gerats, where a large (still empty) parking lot was waiting for us in the immediate vicinity of the bus stop for line 81 😊

Today it was a matter of conquering the "Guardian of the Allgäu" on the seventh stage of the Himmelsstürmer Route: the Grünten. An exhausting, steep ascent with almost 1,000 meters of altitude. The effort was - once again - worth it and we were able to enjoy great views and cloud formations.

A beautiful and once again varied stage, with moderate inclines, a large number of summit crosses (sometimes in places that didn't really look like a summit) and what felt like 50 cattle gates that we had to pass. Today a shorter tour that took us from beautiful Oberstaufen to the foot of the Allgäu High Alps. From here the next stage takes you to the Hochgrat, at 1,832 meters.

Officially, this stage ends at the Staufner Haus near the high ridge. However, since we did not want to spend the night at the hut and the alternative of walking directly to Balderschwang - on the other side of the mountain range - was ruled out due to the unusable return transfer options, we made a… leggi altro

Even if the weather forecast for today was modest, this could not prevent us from continuing the tour through the Nagelfluhkette Nature Park, which we started the day before, to complete the section from the Hochgrat valley station over the Hochgrat down to Balderschwang.

After the first snow fell yesterday in the high altitudes of the Allgäu Alps, we started the 13th stage today, which started for us on the Riedbergpass (Germany's highest pass road) at an altitude of 1,402 meters. Today's stage started in thick fog on the Riedberg Pass, i.e. at an altitude of 1,402 meters. After a few meters of altitude it cleared up and we were offered fantastic 360-degree views from the Riedberger Horn, the first of five peaks that we had to conquer today.

A relaxed bridging stage from Fischen to Oberstdorf, which we completed before stages 13 and 14. After the 12th stage, it was urgent to sleep in and so we preferred a short stage on this initially rainy day. Fortunately, we only needed the rain jackets shortly before Oberstdorf :)

From the Mühlenbrücke in Oberstdorf, the end point of our 15th stage of the Himmelsstürmer Route, we started today, past the ski jumping hills and through the Oytal, to the beginning of the ascent to the Nebelhorn.

Since the weather forecast announced golden October weather for today, we started the day early to cover the 27 km in a time that would allow us a final transfer back from Tannheim to Bad Hindelang. So we started at 6:30 a.m., and our hike started around 7:15 a.m.
