A-Z Rund um München, 2022

The weather forecast promises a clear and sunny winter day, so today I have chosen a particularly beautiful panoramic trail: From Aying over the moraine height of the Mangfallknies further along the Mangfall to Bad Aibling. According to the "A-Z" plan I developed during a hike from Aying to Bad Aibling last week, I hiked the "C" today.



Following this plan, I would like to hike to as many places as possible in the Munich area in 2022 in alphabetical order and according to these rules:

On my tour, connecting train stations around Munich from A-Z while hiking and collecting kilometers for the Mega-Challenge (>500km in January and February), a long section from Lake Chiemsee to Dorfen was on the agenda today.

After the long section from Lake Chiemsee to Dorfen last week, my "A-Z" tour continued today to Erding, a gentle 27 kilometers away. I actually wanted to have done the tour in the fresh snow on Saturday, but a defective switch blocked my way. Today it was just a stubborn signal, but it couldn't prevent… leggi altro

From Erding to Freising. 24 short kilometers and hardly any altitude difference through the Erdinger Moos. Sounds good.



It was, but unfortunately "moss" often means "stubborn ground fog", and so I should only see the blue sky today on the S-Bahn home to Munich.

Today I escape the stubborn winter fog in the north of Munich in a southerly direction, always along the Isar.



In Freising, you can get to the Isar faster from the train station than in the city center - barely 10 minutes after I got off the train, I already have the Isar meadows to myself in the morning… leggi altro

A long list of places around Munich begins with "H", and conveniently also a place only three kilometers east of my destination yesterday: Haar near Munich, known to connoisseurs of a certain age as the home of such influential printed works as "Happy Computer" or "64'er"...

Today, the alphabet takes me from Haar north again, to Ismaning. The path leads over the Munich gravel plain, so flat that one could almost imagine oneself in northern Germany. Even two wind turbines, which are otherwise rare in Bavaria, can be seen on the horizon.

"J" follows "I" - only two S-Bahn stations apart around Munich. Ten varied kilometers.



First it goes in Ismaning from the feudal subterranean S-Bahn station (back then paid for by the municipality and not the railway) to daylight, then up the tunnel always heading south. The "North German" section across… leggi altro

On the way from "J" to "K" I crossed the north of Munich from east to west today.



Start in Johanneskirchen. To the east of here is one of the last large undeveloped open spaces in Munich's urban area, four times the size of the area surrounded by the old town ring road. Accordingly, there are plans to… leggi altro

According to the weather forecast, it should snow again today. A look out of the window this morning made one expect the uncomfortable combo "wind & drizzle".



So it was quite good that I fortunately found an "L" not so far away with Lochham (alternatives would have been Landshut or Landsberg am Lech… leggi altro

fresh snow! So let's get out, today on my "A-Z" tour was the section from Lochham to the nearest "M", i.e. Maisach.



Unfortunately, when I got off the S-Bahn in Lochham, all that was left of the beautiful fresh snow was a thin coating of sugar, and the ground was muddy underneath. At least it stays dry… leggi altro

In bright sunshine I get off the S-Bahn in Neugilching. The hiking day starts well!



The path first leads past Oberpfaffenhofen Airport, formerly the home of Dornier. By coincidence, my A-Z tour took me past all former and current airports in and around Munich: Riem, Erdinger Moos (MUC), Erding itself… leggi altro

From "O" to "P" we head south again towards the mountains. The route leads through the starting point of my "A-Z" tour, to Aying.



The way there leads - like yesterday - through the large forest areas in the south of Munich. Perfectly straight forest paths, on which there is still some old snow from the… leggi altro

Storm is forecast from the north today, so it fits well that I have to go south: St. Quirin am Tegernsee is my "Q" destination (idea from A🚶🏽‍♂️L🚴🏼‍♂️E🏃🏽‍♂️X here on Komoot), and the route is spectacular when the weather is nice: first an Alpine panorama south of Peiß, then greeting camels, descent… leggi altro

After the long stage to Tegernsee on Sunday, today's program included a shorter section through the foothills of the Alps: from St. Quirin to Reichersbeuern.



I'm sitting in the train and I see the meadows suddenly turning white to the south of Holzkirchen. Not only did it snow on Monday, the snow also… leggi altro

Today the weather is glorious, so we have to get up early to drive to Reichersbeuern. Shortly before nine o'clock I start today's tour to Lake Starnberg, "S" destination is Seeshaupt on the southern shore.

When I arrive in Seeshaupt it is just after three o'clock and I can expect at least two more hours of clear winter afternoon light. So I decide to hike on to the next letter, which is only 11 kilometers to the north: "T" like Tutzing.

With a still bright blue sky, we continue today to "U", from Tutzing to Utting am Ammersee.



In Tutzing, the first thing to do is uphill, luckily still frozen over mud paths up the Martelsgraben to the Deixlfurt lakes. This and the neighboring golf course (without heated greens like at Tegernsee) are circumnavigated… leggi altro
