Culture and Pättken paths — rides in the Baumbergse hills

You can't get any higher in the Münsterland region of Germany: the Baumberge are its highest hills. In addition to the many flat and leisurely cycle paths of Münsterland, there are also several moderate climbs and fast descents. On the well-maintained cycle paths, you can ride at whatever pace you like. The Pättken, a regional name for narrow dirt paths, provide intriguing variety. These trails tend to run alongside fields and through forests and put you particularly close to nature.

In this Collection, we present six wonderful circular routes. Along the way, you discover impressive churches, monasteries and chapels. The moated castles, typical of the region, are particularly worth seeing. So be sure to plan some time for sightseeing. The beautiful surroundings are amazing and many of the paths lead through nature reserves and to viewpoints on the hills.

The landscape is characterised by wooded hills and picturesque fields. In between, you find idyllic river valleys and stunning moorland. The charming towns along the way are dotted with fascinating sights and historic buildings. There’s always an option to combine your rides with a walk through the old towns of Billerbeck, Nottuln, Coesfeld or Havixbeck.

You can travel to the starting points in Havixbeck, Billerbeck and Coesfeld quite comfortably by train. The circular routes that start in Nottuln and Rosendahl can also be reached easily from a station with a few extra kilometres by bike. You don't even have to bring your own bike if you want to explore the beautiful Baumberge on two wheels. There are rental stations and dealers in several towns where you can rent a bike for your excursion. And if you have any problems with your two-wheeled companion, there are plenty of workshops to have your bike repaired in the Baumberge region.
