Leaves rustle softly in the wind, as if the trees were whispering. You smell the rich earthy smell of the soil beneath your feet, breathe deeply, and slowly open your eyes. Is there anything more relaxing than a break in the forest? In this Collection, we’ve compiled seven wonderful hikes through forests in the far north of Germany on which you can take a break in nature. Almost one third of Germany is covered in woodland so there is a wealth of forest landscapes to discover in the north. Set off on an adventure on your doorstep and discover the forests around Harz, Heide, and Holstein.

Roam through the dense forests of the Western Harz, hike through the Weserbergland under the green canopy of leaves and explore the unique landscape of the Lüneburg Heath. Gaze over the treetops in the far north and learn more about the regions of Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. Along the hikes, you also come across the occasional idyllic lake, herd of grazing sheep, or bizarre rock formations. Often, you don't have to go far out of the city to explore these landscapes. For example, on the outskirts of Hamburg, you find a huge nature reserve in the middle of the metropolitan region where you can visit the Duvenstedter Brook and Wohldorfer Wood.

All of the hikes in this Collection are designed as day trips with plenty of time for enjoyable breaks along the way. And of course, as you are hiking in the north of Germany, you can expect the routes to be almost entirely flat.
