Some GR routes are tough physical challenges that cross epic mountain ranges. Others are spiritual journeys that follow centuries-old pilgrimage routes. Some simply invite you to rediscover the pleasures of nature.
In this Collection, I reveal the GR 26, which takes you from the outskirts of Paris to Villers-sur-Mer, on the English Channel. Fields, woods and small villages are your main companions on the 307-kilometre (191 mi) route, which I’ve divided into 12 stages.
The bucolic, isolated setting of the first three days is sure to surprise. It's hard to believe that you're in the tumultuous Paris region. Curiously, it's when you arrive in Normandy – from the fourth stage onwards – that you find the bustle of the towns of Pacy-sur-Eure and Évreux. The Eure river guides your steps, followed by other rivers: the Iton, the Charentonne and the Orbiquet, whose source you’ll discover.
You’ll come across many charming villages, such as Le Neubourg, Harcourt and Bernay, which reveal the history of Normandy through their churches and castles. You'll travel through typical Normandy landscapes, including the Ouche, Risle and Auge regions. Finally, after all these days immersed in the Normandy and Yvelines countryside, you reach the coast. The beach at Villers-sur-Mer puts the finishing touch to this peaceful journey.
Accommodation and places for food and drink can be limited along the way, so I’ve divided the Collection into long stages to maximise your options. However, the best way is to wild camp and, if you wish, make a few stops at gîtes and campsites in the larger towns. Remember to fill your rucksack with food in towns and your water bottles when you come across a watering hole. For more information on accommodation and shops, see the Tour descriptions.
Villennes-sur-Seine and Villers-sur-Me both have train stations, making it easy to get to the start and finish points by public transport. If you only want to walk part of the route, there are other stations along the way, including Bonnières-sur-Seine, Évreux, Bernay and Lisieux.
You can tackle this route all year round, thanks to the mild climate of the Normandy coast. You'll never encounter extreme conditions, but remember to adapt your clothing according to the season and the forecast. As is often the case, spring, summer and autumn are still the most pleasant times to hike. And if you want to finish your Tour with a dip in the English Channel, you'd better do it in the summer. So, pack your swimwear as well as your rucksack and hiking boots. Several days of walking and peace and quiet await you on the paths of Normandy and Ile-de-France.

Portano varietà durante i 30 chilometri da percorrere in giornata.
Ricevi consigli su singletrack, vette e tante altre avventure imperdibili!
Stai andando controcorrente.
