The Werratal cycle path leads you along the Werra from the Thuringian Slate Mountains to the "Meeting of the Rivers" in Hann. Münden. Wildly romantic wooded banks, lush green meadows and wide fields accompany you on your way. Lakes glistening in the sun invite you to swim, dreamy half-timbered towns invite you to take a break and sublime castles and monasteries invite you to visit. With such a varied nature and culture, it is no wonder that the Werratal cycle path is recommended by the ADFC in the brochure "Discovering Germany by bike".
The Werratal Cycle Route runs for about 306 kilometres from Neuhaus am Rennweg to Hann. Münden. It passes through Thuringia, Hesse and Lower Saxony. The Werra rises in the Thuringian slate mountains and makes its way over 300 kilometres through a wonderfully varied landscape to its confluence with the Fulda in Hann. Münden. From there, both rivers continue together as the Weser. So that you too can attend this unique meeting of the rivers and experience the beauty of the cycle path on your way there, we have put together the Werratal cycle path for you here in six stages.
The best way to get to the starting point in Neuhaus am Rennweg is with the Süd Thüringen Bahn (sued-thueringen-bahn.de), which connects the town at Rennsteig with Sonnenberg main station, where Deutsche Bahn trains also stop. From there you cycle mostly on well asphalted cycle or forest paths through the three federal states. Both in the stage destinations and along the route you will find plenty of accommodation such as pensions, hotels and camping sites. The numerous places along the cycle path, with their cosy restaurants and cafés, offer you the opportunity to take a relaxing break again and again. The inviting beer gardens are also a great place to relax. In all stage towns you have the opportunity to change to the train if you want to shorten the route or if the weather is no longer good. At the finish of the tour, in Hann. Münden, not only the three rivers Werra, Fulda and Weser meet, but also the corresponding cycle paths. So if you don't want to get on the train and go home yet, you can simply continue your bike tour on the Fulda cycle path or the Weser cycle path.
The Werratal cycle path is recommended in the brochure "Deutschland per Rad entdecken" by the ADFC (German Cyclist's Association).
