Karin Salamon prefers to hike in spring and autumn. She lives in Schmallenberg and has created a wonderful holiday home in her Heute-Mühle. “What fascinates me most about the Schmallenberger Sauerland hiking region and the Eslohe holiday region are the varied tours, because they offer the hiker everything: views, far-reaching views, forest paths, paths, walks and many places to stop for a break. And the network of hiking trails is very well signposted. The forest worker and forester path is my favorite hiking trail because it is very suitable for families. There is a lot to discover along the way, and the playground and treading pool round off the experience. " Forest and forest are the two defining themes in the historical development of the region. On the four and a half kilometer long themed trail, 17 stations show a lot of interesting and exciting things from the past and visions for the future. Already in the first station, the forest workers museum in Latrop, old tools, pictures, forest files and the development of the chainsaw are shown. The structure and functioning of an old charcoal-burning plant is told in an exciting way along the way, as is the story of a 180-year-old oak tree with crown defoliation, which provides a habitat for no less than 260 insect species. Topics such as dead wood, the forest-game conflict or the cultivation of young trees in a planting camp are presented and explained in a very appealing way at the various stations. This hike is a must for big and small explorers and if you come out of the forest full of new knowledge but with a hungry stomach, you will find nice refreshment stops and warm hosts in Latrop who are happy to take care of your well-being.
