The festival cycle path starts in Eisenstadt, the capital of Burgenland. You should plan a good day for the entire route, but alternatively you can also spend the night in the baroque town of Rust. So you can split the entire route into two comfortable stages. There is also a campsite there. After visiting Esterházy Castle in Eisenstadt, the route leads directly to the east and over the villages of Schützen am Gebirge and Donnerskirchen to the broad reed belt on the banks of Lake Neusiedl. Here you can replenish your drinking water reserves and take a first rest. Now it goes south along the lake. Shortly before Oggau you finally come very close to the lake shore, because the reed carpet is getting a bit thinner here - maybe you will find a nice spot by the water that invites you to a refreshment. From here it goes on to Rust. If you haven't been able to find a bathing spot at the lake, the search is over now, because there is one of many great seaside resorts. If you want to ride the bike tour in two stages, you can now also stop and look for accommodation for the night. In the local wine academy you can also indulge your sense of taste and the old town of Rust invites you to linger in the evening. It continues to the festival community Mörbisch am See. In July and August, operettas by Austrian composers are performed here every year on an impressive floating stage. Shortly after Mörbisch there is another cultural highlight: the gate to freedom on the Austrian-Hungarian border commemorates the first major mass exodus from the former GDR.It is now about 16 kilometers back to Eisenstadt and you have already completed the only major climb on the route - just before the Hungarian border. So it's time to comfortably roll towards your destination. One or the other Heuriger in Sankt Margarethen or Trausdorf an der Wulka can also be found for a cozy evening feast. If, by the way, you only want to invest one day for the tour and the total distance is a bit too far for you, there are various places where you can also reduce the tour a bit: So the round in the north to Donnerskirchen does not necessarily have to be driven, but also the southern part can be shortened perfectly from Rust to Sankt Margarethen. Our tip: When choosing your starting point and the direction of travel, pay attention to the current wind direction. It can get quite windy around Lake Neusiedl and you know the wind is better in your back than in your face.
