On this Tour, you’ll cycle through the wonderful landscape of the Southern Black Forest and explore three countries: Germany, Switzerland and France. This beautiful region is characterised by wooded hills, green river valleys, lively towns and magnificent buildings.
In this Collection, we’ve divided the 262 kilometres (163 mi) of the Südschwarzwaldradweg (Southern Black Forest Cycle Path) into five stages. In the stage-end towns of Grimmelshofen, Laufenburg, Einmeldingen and Opfingen, you’ll find a good selection of places to stay away from the popular hotspots – which means more peace and quiet and cheaper prices are guaranteed. The first and second stages are close to nature, while the remaining stages are mainly characterised by urban areas and the Rhine River.
From Hinterzarten railway station, the route initially takes you past Titisee lake on the Bähnle cycle path, which leads you into the beautiful Wutach Valley. You‘ll then reach the Rhine and the Swiss border, which you cross several times on bridges. Enchanting old towns such as Tiengen, Laufenburg and Bad Säckingen invite you to explore. Accompanied by the Rhine, you’ll cycle to Basel, home to a wide range of cultural attractions. A little later, you’ll make a short detour into France.
Then say goodbye to the Rhine and immerse yourself in the wine-growing region near Bad Krozingen. Freiburg awaits on the last stage, which takes you along the Dreisam and through a hilly landscape to Himmelreich. There, you’ll board the Höllentalbahn railway, which takes you back to the starting point in Hinterzarten. This completes your cycle tour, which offers plenty of variety in three countries.
