You follow small paths through dense forests. Suddenly, you notice that you’re surrounded by water on both sides. You ride uphill across a wide field and see Upper Lusatia in all its splendour. The Neißeland Tour takes you to the easternmost tip of Germany through enchanted landscapes to places untouched by tourism and introduces you to the warm Sorbian hospitality.
Throughout the Tour, you’ll encounter water: reservoirs, idyllic swimming lakes, fish farm ponds as well as babbling streams, the eponymous Neisse river and moats await you along the way.
The Neißeland Tour is divided into three stages, each 40 to 50 kilometres (25 to 31 mi) long. This gives you enough time to relax by a lake or include one or two detours. The route isn’t too strenuous; there are only a few hills and they aren't steep. You’ll still be able to enjoy a beautiful view of the landscape from some hills.
You can easily reach the starting point in Niesky by train. Unfortunately, Upper Lusatia doesn’t have long-distance transport connections, but you can get to Niesky cheaply from Berlin, Cottbus and Dresden. Each Tour ends with a few accommodation options, but book well in advance. Along the route, you’ll discover small cafés that are happy to welcome cyclists. Nevertheless, pack some food and enough water in your panniers. Get ready for a fantastic adventure through the wonderful Neisseland.
