The Mae Hong Son Loop is a very popular route starting from Chiang Mai in North Thailand. Most groups do the route anti-clockwise perhaps to have the option of climbing Thailands highest point Doi Inthanon towards the end of the route. I signed up to do the route with a local company in Chiang Mai ‘Cycling Buddy’. I was joined by an American and Dutch cyclist and with the guide from Thailand, we were four. We decided to do the route clock-wise in six days and follow a hard day by an easy day which worked out very well as some of the climbs are very steep up to and over 20% with significant climbing on the hard days. The weather this year in early February was excellent with no real smoke or smog, hot during the day but with the altitude and leaving early most mornings we never suffered too much from the heat. Cycling buddy had a driver and van who supplied us with cold drinks and snacks throughout the day. I hadn’t done a tour like this before and I really enjoyed the support, hotels organised, gear washed, breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. We always finished early enough to have plenty of time to relax at the hotel and recover for the next day. By the third day we were in better condition and really enjoying the quiet roads, scenery, and fast descents. Naturally, excellent brakes and bike handling skills are required.

Abbiamo…

Alcune belle discese e tornanti stretti. C'erano alcuni…
