The magic forest begins on the east bank of the Hintersee and is traversed by the Ramsauer Ache, which forms the lake drain. Along the path that runs next to the Ache, there are boulders as high as a house, some of which came from a rock fall 3500 years ago.

The easiest way to get to the starting point of the hike on the Obersee is to board the boat in Schönau and drive to the landing stage of the Saletalm. On the way, the boat makes a stop in St. Bartholomä, from where a path leads to the ice chapel.
