The Harz Mountains are known for their fascinating scenery and rich folklore. These rugged mountains and sheer cliffs, mysterious caves, clear lakes and sinister pits are the setting of countless myths and legends.
On the Tours in this Collection, you follow the paths of witches, helpful dwarfs, fearsome giants, brave princesses and strange ghosts. You hike up the Brocken, where devils and witches celebrate Walpurgis Night on the last night in April, and walk around the kingdom of the dwarf king at the Hübichenstein in Bad Grund. You walk through mysterious valleys past cascading waterfalls to the Ilsestein, where a princess once lived. Near Blackenburg, you hike over cliffs that are said to have been built by the devil. You wander through magical mixed beech forests in the Selke Valley, which a giant once leapt across. In Stolberg, you can go ghost hunting and climb up to the Rosstrappe, a hoofprint in the rock that tells of the flight of a fearless maiden.
These Tours take you to the most beautiful corners of the Harz, which has always attracted nature lovers from far and wide. On easy to difficult hikes, you get to know the myths of Germany's northernmost low mountain range. The places are truly lush and legendary.
The hikes are suitable year-round, but check the forecast before setting off, especially if there’s a chance of snow. Always bring wind and waterproof clothing and carry sun protection with you. You never know exactly what the conditions will be like here. Some passages can be slippery so wear sturdy shoes. Sure-footedness is necessary for almost all the routes in this Collection.
Along the way, you can stop off at an inn and taste the traditional Harz cuisine. But, bring some food with you just in case, especially on the longer and more strenuous routes.
Following in the footsteps of the most popular Harz legends is a real adventure. In the mystical low mountain landscape, you can expect an unforgettable time, bizarre places and peculiar tales that you’ll remember for years to come.
