Would you like to use a long weekend for a bike tour and are still looking for inspiration? Are you in good shape, not afraid of the odd challenging climb and your bike is also suitable for mountain biking? Then this almost 120 miles (190 kilometres) tour through the Heilbronn region is definitely something for you. Impressive castles, picturesque little towns, the odd idyllic river in beautiful countryside and the beautiful town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber at the end. Sounds convincing? I think so too. In this collection, I have divided the route into three stages to show you the region from its most beautiful side.
You can easily reach your city and destination by train and find overnight accommodation along the way. The first day ends in Heilbronn, where you should have no problem finding a bed and a good evening meal. Especially as Heilbronn is the home of excellent wines – and wine and good food tend to go hand in hand. In Eschental on the second stage, you will find an inn where you can spend a relaxed night. By the way, the tour follows the route of the former Kraichgau-Hohenlohe Cycle Route pretty much exactly.
For the most part, you will be travelling on little-used side roads or country lanes, with many miles of cycle paths also awaiting you. While you often start out pedalling through open countryside between fields and meadows, nature changes the closer you get to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. You then cross beautiful forests on longer sections, which is a wonderful change, especially in summer. Rest areas and small, exciting places line your route, so you are almost spoilt for choice as to where you want to relax in between. A little tip from me: if you have a little more time, stay an extra night in Heilbronn and one in Rothenburg so that you can explore both towns more extensively. It's worth it!
