Follow in the footsteps of marching Roman soldiers on this 2,000 year-old cobbled path. Sarn Helen once cut across the whole of Wales - now two sections are left, one from Neath to Brecon, and one from Aberconwy to Carmarthen. The former is the perfect two-day hiking adventure - the route cleaves through the whole of the Brecon Beacons National Park, passing through lush forests and into the shadow of Fan Llia mountain on the way to the market town of Brecon. On the route you'll pass the remains of Roman camps and the gravestone of a fallen Roman soldier - locals used to say that the stone's Latin inscription was a fairy language. This 33 mile route can be split into two or three days, and you can wild camp along the way if you're discreet.
