Very nice castle ruins. The facility can be visited with a wonderful view of the Palatinate Forest. Only small parts of the castle have survived since it was used as a quarry after it was destroyed. Built on the top of the mountain, crowned by a rocky reef, it originally covered an area of approximately 50 x 25 meters. Of the three towers of the upper castle on the rock reef, only the keep is partially preserved. In addition, there are numerous beam and post holes in this area and the remains of a staircase carved into the rock, which once served as a connection to the lower castle. Parts of the surrounding wall, building foundations and a gate still exist.
Today the rock of the Oberburg is a platform that allows a view of the Upper Mundatwald and the Rhine plain. (from: de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Guttenberg_(Pfalz)

Starting from Dörrenbach via a route steeped in history, you can easily reach the castle ruins. Numerous destroyed bunkers of the west wall are on the way.
The view extends from the Rhine plain over the northern Vosges to the Palatinate Forest.
The type of rock castle also reminiscent of the Drachenfels at Busenberg.

The castle ruins Guttenberg is once again one of these enchanted castles 🏰 in the Palatinate, of which one knows far too little. Certainly nothing about how the proud structure once looked like.
Despite the few remnants of the wall, it is always impressive what our forefathers were able to accomplish at that time. The origins of the castle go back to the second half of the 12th century. That's the year 1150, that's almost 870 years ago.
If you want to know more about the history of the castle, I recommend the linked video from the Palatinate veteran Norbert Haugel. Unfortunately it was his last castle video. Unfortunately he is no longer with us. On all the castles for which he made his videos and on which I already was myself, I linked the video.
And those I have not visited yet, I will visit to give his remaining videos a suitable stage. Have fun watching.

Possibly the castle was first mentioned in 1151 as the Hohenstaufen empire castle, which was administered by the Ministerialen Landolfo de Gudenburc, or with Ulrich von Guttenberg (Udelricus de Gudenburhc), who donated in 1174 the monastery Eußerthal. Safe first mention is in 1246, when Isengard von Falkenstein, in exchange for her husband Reichstruchsess Philip I von Falkenstein, the castle to King Konrad IV handed over.
From 1317, the castle was partly fief to the Counts of Leiningen, while the other half fell a little later to the Palatinate.
In the Palatinate division of 1410, the castle Duke Stefan von Pfalz-Simmern-Zweibrücken was slammed. The Leininger lost in 1463 their share of ownership, which reached via the Hanau Lichtenberger to the wittelsbachische side line Palatinate Zweibrücken.
In 1525 in the German Peasants' War Burg Guttenberg was destroyed by the Lorraine peasant heap. The ruin was not rebuilt

At the border to the Mundatwald was a former refuge, today there is the Ritterstein castle hut, after a possible descent from the Guttenberg ruin or directly below the ruin you get to the next Ritterstein Drei Buchen. There are of course three mighty beeches.
