The "Bridges over the North Canal" by the Kaarst artist Wilhelm Schiefer has existed since 2008. But actually they are not bridges over the North Canal at all. They cannot be entered and they do not help us from one bank to the other. They are towers, some of which are connected to one another, while others are not. Between them and under them we cross the small canal on a real pedestrian bridge.

On both banks there are five 14 meter high wooden towers, which are connected with walkways and ladders. These tree-high structures fit impressively into the natural space of the site thanks to their proportions and materials. The architectural ensemble is reduced to a few stylistic elements and associates the observer with the original forms of the dwelling.
The art installation has been illuminated at night since 2010. Atmospheric lighting was created that wraps the work of art in a subtle robe of light. Light accents are set by 28 spotlights that enchant the stilt houses in the dark.
