The Dreiherrenstein on the Großer Weißenberg is a historic boundary stone at 740 m altitude on the Großer Weißenberg in the Thuringian Forest. It is located about 5 km west of the Großer Inselsberg on the Rennsteig. This Dreiherrenstein marked the borders of the Duchy of Saxony-Meiningen, the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg and Gotha as well as Kurhessen for centuries. Even today the Dreiherrenstein forms a border point: Here the counties of Gotha (with the district of Winterstein), the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen (with the district of Brotterode) and the Wartburgkreis (with the district of Steinbach) meet.
The Breiter Rennsteig begins at the Dreiherrenstein and leads south to Breitungen. In addition to the Waldschänke restaurant, there has also been a monument to Victor von Scheffel since 1913. With his work: At the beginning (1863) he made the Rennsteig famous.

The Große Dreiherrenstein is located almost in the middle of the Rennsteig and testifies to the border of three former rulers, namely the Duchy of Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen and the Duchy of Meiningen. After the Congress of Vienna in 1815, the border of the Kingdom of Prussia also ran here. Along the Rennsteig there are still 13 three-man stones that have been preserved in more or less good condition.
Immediately next to the Großer Dreiherrenstein, the forest chalet invites you to take a break.
In addition to the Waldschänke excursion restaurant, there has also been a monument to Victor von Scheffel since 1913. With his work: In the Beginning (1863) he helped the Rennsteig to gain further fame.
