The Schwanheimer bridge is a road bridge in Frankfurt am Main, which connects the Main with the districts Nied and Schwanheim About the bridge, the B 40 as a motor road between Frankfurt-Griesheim and Kelsterbach out. The Schwanheimer bridge is 489 m long and 29 m wide; Depending on the direction of travel, it includes two lanes separated by a fortified median strip, a sidewalk and a cycle path. The first Schwanheimer bridge between Schwanheim and Griesheim was built between 1905 and 1907, of which today only the bridge house is preserved. It was blown up on 25 March 1945 by pioneers of the Wehrmacht to stop the advance of American troops. Between 1947 and 1963 a makeshift bridge connected the Griesheimer and the Schwanheimer Ufer. The present Schwanheimer bridge was built 600 m downstream of the makeshift bridge in the years 1961/62 and opened to traffic in September 1963.Type: steel beam bridge
