The Houbirg is a mountain near Happurg in Middle Franconia with a gone Celtic oppidum of the same name. Remains of the walls, some of which are still ten meters high, have survived, encompassing an area of almost one square kilometer with a length of four and a half kilometers. In addition, a prehistoric site, a castle stable and a gallery complex built as part of the U-relocation testify to the history of the survey.

The word Houbirg is divided into two words: "Birg" and "Hou". Birg comes from the word "bergen", which means something like to withdraw on the mountain for defense and Hou is related to the word "Hag", which means thorny bushes, fencing and fortified place.
The Houbirg is one of the largest high-altitude Celtic settlements in southern Germany, which was enclosed by a ring wall approximately four and a half kilometers long (compare Nuremberg city wall: four kilometers).
The first evidence of settlement dates back to around 1600 BC. BC back. It is believed that the plant was built in two main phases of settlement, in the urn field period (approx. 900 - 800 BC) and in the early Celtic period (approx. 500 BC), it was finally expanded by the Celtic Laten culture .

Hollow rock is a natural karst cave. In addition to the cave, the neighboring rock face also bears this name. The cave, open to the south, is 546 m above sea level. NN Höhe.Grandiose view of the surrounding area, nice seats for a rest with a view of the Happurger reservoir.

From Pommelsbrunn you can start from the S-Bahn station. Just go in the direction of the pub and follow the red signs (1000hmtr ...). I ran counterclockwise and found this variant good. There are many vertical meters to practice and great views. The round is the southern part of the 1000-Höhenmeterweges and the nicer part. The marks are very good. However, I did not find a rest stop. But Pommelsbrunn is nearby and the Naturfreundehaus there is open on weekends (ask in low season!)
