The Jenischpark in Othmarschen is a green oasis and belongs to the Flottbektal nature reserve. The Jenisch-Haus and the Kunstforum Ernst-Barlach-Haus complete the offer.
The Flottbektal nature reserve extends not far from the Elbe. The Jenischpark with its large tree population and extensive green wet meadows is part of it. Joggers, dog owners and walkers head for this park to take a break from the big city. But the park is also a popular destination thanks to its buildings. A visit to the Loki Schmidt Garden is also worthwhile. When walking along the Elbe beach, both the Old Swede and the beach pearl can be headed for.
The classicist Jenisch house is a white cube that can be seen from afar in the green surroundings. The house was built between 1831 and 1834 on behalf of Senator Martin Johann Jenisch the Younger. Converted to a museum in 1936, it used to be used as a private home. In the house itself there are exhibits to be visited from several centuries. Since 1955 it has been one of the branches of the Altona Museum. The art forum Ernst-Barlach-Haus is also always worth a visit with temporary exhibitions. On the hill in front of the Jenisch House, the incoming and outgoing container ships on the Elbe can be watched. In September 2017, the Eduard Bargheer Museum was added to a third museum in Jenischpark.

JR has written many great explanations. One could add: The low landing maneuvers of the planes heading towards the Airbus site are also impressive. With a little luck you can watch them from the large meadow below the Jenischhaus. The kiosk in the northwest of the park is currently open again (summer 2019). It is bad with the dogs, even if you actually like them. Almost no one adheres to the compulsory leash and so you can be jumped at involuntarily or many a child almost jumps into the duck pond when a large animal jumps unexpectedly at it. Even the playground in the north of the park is not safe from this.
Some tips in the immediate vicinity are: the small Reemtsmapark in the east, the extensive Derby Park in the west with the subsequent Quellental (both much less frequented) and the feeder in Teufelsbrück with the excellent snack bar.

The roots of the 500 year old pedunculate oak in the Jenischpark go back a long way. She is a survivor of the forestry operated here in the 16th century.
