The Liberation Hall, which towers above Kehlheim on Michelsberg, can be seen from afar. Although it is not directly on the Panoramaweg, but since this starts or ends directly in Kehlheim, you should take some time to visit the monumental memorial.
King Ludwig I had the building built in the middle of the 19th century.
From the observation deck, which can be reached by elevator or 125 steps, you have a fantastic view over the Danube, Altmühl and Kehlheim.
Inside the magnificent building you can admire 34 goddess of victory from Carrara marble.Opening hours (ticket sales until 17:15)

The liberation hall on the Michelsberg near Kelheim is one of the most important buildings of the 19th century in Germany. Built by King Ludwig I and designed by Leo von Klenze. It is one of the large, architecturally designed national monuments, in this respect only comparable to the also built by Klenez Walhalla in Regensburg, the Battle of Nations Monument and the Kyffhäuser monument.

The memorial for the victorious battles against Napoleon in the Wars of Liberation 1813 - 1815, commissioned by King Ludwig I, was started by Friedrich Gärtner based on ancient and Christian central building ideas and completed in 1863 by Leo von Klenze according to changed plans. The buttresses of the outer facade crown 18 colossal statues as allegories of the German tribes. The number 18 also symbolizes the date of the Battle of Nations near Leipzig (October 18, 1813), on which Napoleon's troops were crushed by the coalition. The steep climb to the Liberation Hall is best done comfortably with the Ludwigsbahn. The white and blue mini train starts regularly at the Danube ship landing stage. So you not only get to the mountain with ease and enjoy the view of the city, but also learn a lot of interesting things along the way.further information / source:

A visit to the Liberation Hall is definitely worth it. The huge statues inside and the gigantic dome are very impressive. Even my 5 year old daughter was thrilled.
A spiral staircase leads to the "first floor" and has a great view of the floor from above with beautiful patterns. Then, via another spiral staircase, you come to the upper outdoor area with a great view of Kelheim, Danube etc.

Very interesting building. The climb is worthwhile and there is a lot of information about the hall on site.

Incidentally, the first impression is deceptive: the facade, as can be seen at first glance, does not consist of large-sized stone blocks: during the construction of the hall, King Ludwig I of Bavaria supposedly ran out of money, so the wall became a "simple" brick wall , then plastered and painted with a stone pattern ...
So if you look closely, you can see through these brilliant illusions ...
