From the rest area in front of the lighthouse you can see the Schafberg (300m) through a landscape window. As protection for the grazing animals this was erected with a ring vats. At high tide the sheep grazing on the salt marshes could be brought to safety by the shepherds.

Good 40 meters high, founded on a concrete base. When it was built in 1906/07, it was thrown open to its own warp, a hill in the Wadden Sea, about a kilometer from the dike. So he stands on his little island drying. Since the watt is too soft to carry the towering load of a tower, the engineers rammed 127 oak piles into the ground. Today, the red and white curled lighthouse is not only a landmark of Eiderstedt, but is one of the most prominent points on the entire west coast of Schleswig-Holstein. The actual tower consists of 608 curved, cast-iron plates bolted together - a total weight of 130 tons. It rests on an angular foundation of brick, which in turn stands on a hollow chamber made of reinforced concrete. Their interior once served as a drinking water reservoir. In 1908, the lighthouse went into operation and still radiates up to 50 kilometers across the North Sea.

The Westerhever lighthouse is the landmark of the Eiderstedt peninsula and has been in service for over 100 years.
Nestled in a landscape of salt marshes, the lighthouse, visible from afar, with its two identical houses, represents an ensemble of extraordinary charm.
The tower was built in 1906 on a 4 m high piled up warp (127 thick, long oak piles) and concrete pedestal. On a brick pedestal, the tower was assembled from 608 cast iron plates bolted together. The structure then grew up to a height of 41.5 m above the mean tidal high water. Inside the tower are nine floors. In 1908 the beacon was put into operation.
The range of the arc lamp is 22 nautical nautical miles (1 NM = 1.852 km), at night with good visibility to the 50 km. Through automation, the lighthouse keeper left the tower in 1979. The houses are now inhabited by civil servants of the Wadden Sea protection station. From the sea, with the help of the nautical chart showing the "mark" of the lighthouse, the color of the sector you are looking at and the rhythm of the flashing or steady light can tell you which way to go to the lighthouse.
