Narrow valleys, sparkling streams and rivers, quiet mountain pastures and endless forests – this is the north of the Black Forest. Around 8,000 square kilometres of wooded mountains are designated as the Naturpark Schwarzwald Mitte/Nord and can be explored on the Naturpark-Radweg. On a four-day round trip you cycle along cycle paths, quiet roads and forest tracks through the varied landscape of Germany's largest low mountain range. From Freudenstadt in the east you head west through the Kinzig valley to Offenburg on the edge of the Rhine plain. From here you cycle over vineyards and along fruit plantations to Baden-Baden. North of Baden-Baden, the cycle path meets the Alb, which leads you back into the wooded mountains. And finally, you cycle south along the meandering course of the Enz to Freudenstadt.
On your four-day bike tour, which is also recommended by the ADFC in the brochure "Discover Germany by bike", you will cover a distance of around 263 kilometres. The individual stages are between 50 and 90 kilometres long, but the longer tours can also easily be divided into two or more days. There are even two options for the fourth stage. On the more comfortable first variant, you can take the cable car from Bad Wildbad up to the Sommerberg and from there roll relaxed to Freudenstadt. If you like it more sporty, you can choose the second option instead and cycle steadily uphill through the Enztal valley to your tour destination. As this is a round tour, you can of course start with any stage and cycle the tour in the opposite direction.
Along the routes you will find small villages, old half-timbered towns, monasteries and – especially on the edge of the Rhine plain – impressive castles. Cafes, breweries, restaurants and beer gardens are available for your culinary needs, where you can enjoy Baden and Alsatian cuisine.
Particularly practical: all stage locations have a railway station, so you can take a short train ride or only ride part of the nature park cycle path if the weather changes.
