Cicloturismo – Raccolta by Grafschaft Bentheim Tourismus
In Bentheim, you cycle on beautiful routes through a wonderfully flat landscape, past wide meadows, along romantic rivers and through ancient forests. The area’s diverse history is still present in the impressive castles, idyllic wind and water mills, and small villages. Bordering the Netherlands, Bentheim is a diverse region in northwest Germany with fantastic cycling opportunities.
Discovering Bentheim by bike is a unique experience. With over 620 miles (1,000 km) of well-maintained and signposted cycle paths, the county offers cross-border cycling fun as you ride between Germany and the Netherlands. The language also knows no borders here: In Bentheim, cycling is called “Fietsen”, just like in the Netherlands.
In this Collection, we show you the seven most beautiful cycling routes in Bentheim. Varying in length from 17 to 40 miles (28 to 64 km), the routes are suitable for the whole family. Each ride takes you to wonderful nature, quaint towns and historic mills. You will climb gentle hills and visit observation towers with panoramic views reaching far into the Netherlands, Münsterland and Elmsland. On some of the routes, you hop over the border and explore the Dutch countryside too.
En route and at the start and end of your journey, you can enjoy bike-friendly restaurants and service stations. If your legs tire, you can hop on the Fietsenbus (cycling bus) which will give you and your bike a lift should you want to shorten your ride. Thanks to the region’s excellent cycling infrastructure, it’s been awarded the title of ‘Bicycle-Friendly District of Lower Saxony’ several times. So hop on your bike and enjoy cycling without borders. Or, as they say here: “Fietsen without borders!”
