The GR651 offers you 75 kilometres (47 mi) of happiness for hikers. It's a quieter variant of the famous GR65 (the route from Le Puy to Santiago de Compostela) and makes for an extraordinary adventure.

The itinerary through the Célé Valley is a perfect mix of vibrant nature, sweeping views, secret places and charming villages. You walk right in the heart of the Regional Natural Park of the Causses du Quercy, in France’s Lot department. It’s also less crowded than its famous neighbour and will give you peace and quiet.

For this Collection and for ease of transport, the route starts from Figeac and ends in Saint-Cirq-Lapopie.

At the beginning of the itinerary, you take a small section of the GR 65 from Figeac to Béduer. Similarly, in the last 10 kilometres (6 mi) of this five-day itinerary from Cabrerets to Saint Cirq-Lapopie, you take the GR 36 to finish the adventure along the majestic Lot River. From there, Cahors, a larger town, isn’t far away. You can catch the bus 889, a line linking Figeac to Cahors that replaced the old railway line that you’ll inevitably come across on your way during this short week's walk.

The GR 651, also known as the Voie du Célé, is a charming variant that allows you to get off the beaten track and discover wild and beautiful landscapes.

Amongst the highlights of this route, nestled in a meander of the Célé, you discover Espagnac-Sainte-Eulalie, two traditional villages, grouped together in one. The magnificent priory and its exceptional bell tower are well worth a visit. You then gain height and discover the causses, limestone plateaus with deep gorges. Here, you can appreciate the superb landscapes of these places, which seem hostile but are in fact endowed with a very rich ecosystem.

The path continues through woods and large boulders, winding its way along a cliff, through the village of Saint-Sulpice and its troglodytic houses to arrive at Marcilhac-sur-Célé. In the heart of this village, the ruins of the abbey church, frozen in time, are particularly amazing and provide a little surprise.

The stages are easy, this GR has no notable difficulties and is suitable for everyone: beginners and experienced hikers.

There’s no shortage of accommodation options either. There are many gîtes on this stretch, as well as a few campsites and small hotels that offer a wide choice for all tastes and pockets. Most of the small villages you pass through have grocery shops and bakeries, so there’s no problem with getting supplies.

Figeac and Cahors are very well served by the SNCF, and it’s from these two towns that you should start and end this little journey in the heart of the Quercy.

Have a good walk!
