Standing like a stone fortress at the gates of Grenoble, the Vercors is a mountain massif rich in history and variety. With the Grand Veymont as its highest peak, the massif became a hideout for the French Resistance during the Second World War. On this adventure, you’ll get to know the local people, the cultural heritage of the region and incredible wildlife. Wolves, marmots, deer, roe deer, ibex and birds of prey all call the area home.
The Vercors is a little paradise for cyclists. This crossing is divided into six stages, which you can also cycle independently. First, you explore the northern part of the massif and then you ride to the west before heading to the south-east and finally ending your journey in the Diois Valley. Passes, stone walls and steep slopes are all on the agenda!
The Tours in this Collection will take you to the most beautiful places in the Vercors and past the cliffs of Presles, Choranche, Pont-en-Royans, Léoncel, over the Combe de Laval and the Col du Rousset. A good 320 kilometres (199 mi) of route and 8,000 metres (2,625 ft) of difference in altitude await you, which should not be underestimated. A light bike is recommended for this trip, for example a road bike or a trekking bike with panniers.
At night you can stay in guesthouses or hotels. Bivouacking is also allowed in the Vercors if you like the wilder side of things. If you decide to bivvy, you’ll have to carry more weight but you will be more independent and flexible. In any case, be careful to leave no trace.
For more information on how to get to Pont-de-Claix, see the link in the description of the first Tour. The individual stages can also be easily adapted as day rides. The Vercors massif offers a lot of space for discoveries and has many surprises in store for you!

Tornate indietro verso…
