There's always a reason to cycle and if there isn't, you make one – or rather, you let someone make one for you 😜. My komoot community was ‘to blame’ for the course of this Tour across Germany. I only had one target: to ride from my adopted home of Berlin to the southernmost point of Germany on my gravel bike, preferably in four days. There were a few fixed points, and the rest was up to anyone who wanted to contribute. In the end, I chose four Tour proposals from all the suggestions and was ready to start on 9th April 2021!
From the beginning, one thing that attracted me to this idea was that I would push myself to my limits: 1,000 kilometres (621 miles) in four days on a gravel bike is a pretty big challenge. On the first two days, the itinerary was 270 kilometres (167 miles) a day and after that, around 200 (124 miles). The distances were quite big, but the exciting route passed many sights and led through regions of Germany where I had never yet cycled, ensuring the ride would never be boring. The gravel in the Nuremberg area was incredibly good. Here, there were countless solid gravel paths, as well as single trails that I found quite challenging.
Speaking of challenges, there was something else – the weather! Over the four days, I truly experienced all four seasons. It was spring on the first day, then autumn came back, then finally it was summer, before the heavy onset of winter, which also meant that I couldn’t reach my destination at the end. Nevertheless, this trip was an incredibly great experience. It brought me closer to my home country, showed me my limits and brought me together with great people. Thank you to everyone who was part of it!

I 200 chilometri sembravano quasi “brevi”.

Surf, stand-up paddle, canottaggio: tutto è possibile.
