In the middle of Germany lies a region that’s seemingly tailor made for an exciting bikepacking adventure. Medieval castle ruins, imposing Roman forts, dreamy half-timbered villages and some steep climbs, all this and much more awaits you in the Taunus. The self-supported ‘Taunus Bikepacking’ event has been taking place here since 2018. The Taunus Teaser is something of a little sibling to the main event and is rideable all year round. It’s designed to give an impression of the route’s character and whet your appetite.

The route is based on parts of the previous event editions and is shorter, but no less challenging than the original. For the most part, this route avoids traffic and takes you along asphalt field and forest paths, as well as gravel roads. Any type of off-road bicycle is suitable, but you’ll probably have the most fun with a gravel bike or a light hardtail mountain bike.

For this Collection, we’ve divided the overall route into three suggested stages, making it ideal for a long weekend. Of course, you can also adapt the stages yourself. Due to the relative wealth of supply points, the route is just as interesting for newcomers to cycle touring as for experienced bikepackers. However, it’s hardly ever flat. In total, you take on about 6,000 metres (19,700 ft) of elevation gain. You should be prepared for the many steep climbs, to shorten the stages accordingly and to take more time.

The loop starts and ends at The Eppstein Project campsite in Eppstein-Niederjosbach. At the reception you not only get cold drinks and some specialities from the region, but also – while stocks last – Taunus Bikepacking souvenirs. So before or after your journey, don't forget to say hello to Dani and Ralf, who put their heart and soul into making The Eppstein Project what it is. Of course, you can stay overnight in your own tent or campervan before you start. If you don't have a tent with you, why not reserve a cosy lodge? As these are in great demand, it's best to check availability before you arrive. For more info (in German), see: the-eppstein-project.de

To reach the start, it's easy to take the S-Bahn. The S2 line takes you from Frankfurt to Niederjosbach station. If you come by car, you’ll find a free car park at the station. From here, you can reach the start point by bike in just a few minutes.

We hope you enjoy the route and would love it if you share your experience with the world under the hashtag #taunusteaser. Finally, if, like us, you can't get enough of the Taunus, then maybe we'll see you soon at the start of Taunus Bikepacking.
