The best Alpine lakes

Escursionismo – Raccolta by komoot

High, rough mountains dotted with clear blue lakes - that's what paradise must look like. A few of these oasis are hidden in the Alps. Some of them are hidden, barely touched, some wait for you with a boat tied to a wooden landing, or an Alpine hut next to a dam. All of them are magical, and ideally suited to hiking, biking, or a quick splash.

    Obersee

    Highlight – Escursionismo

The Obersee is the little brother of the Königsee, separated by a moraine wall since a landslide in 1172.

If you want to hike here, first make a nice boat trip over the Königssee, past the fjord-like steeply rising rock walls on the lake shore. On one side of the Obersee, the Fischunkelalm invites you to rest, at the same time a popular starting point for mountain tours in the Steinerne Meer.

    Seebensee

    Highlight – Escursionismo

The bright turquoise high mountain lake at 1657 meters altitude is one of the most beautiful hiking destinations in Tyrol. Here you can refresh yourself in the cool water. On windless days, the Zugspitze massif is reflected in it. If you do not have enough, head up to the Coburger Hütte and the Drachensee.

    Lago di Misurina

    Highlight – Escursionismo

Lake Misurina is an ideal starting point for many hikes. On the one hand, a toll road leads up to the 3 battlements or to the Rifugio Auronzo, on the other hand, a lift leads directly on the lake Wanderer to the Rifugio Col de Varda.
For hungry people I can recommend the Pizzaria Edelweiss.

    Lünersee

    Highlight – Escursionismo

You can walk around the Lünersee in a marvelous way, with the family in 1.5 to 2 hours, once around or up to one of the surrounding peaks. Always in view the sparkling blue of the water, which he gets from an artificial glacier inlet.

    Dürrensee

    Highlight – Escursionismo

The Dürrensee is great for swimming in the summer, because it has no natural runoff and is thus warmer than lakes at a similar altitude. On the north shore is a pebble beach. The turquoise blue waters can be easily circumnavigated on foot. Surrounded to the east by the Sexten Dolomites and to the west by the Fanes - Sennes - Prags Nature Park, the panorama is also unique. If you like it more challenging, start here a mountain hike to the surrounding peaks or romp in the climbing garden.

    Lago di Cresta

    Highlight – Escursionismo

The Crestasee with its crystal-clear water is embedded between dark firs - a picture like from the storybook. It is a spring lake, whose water runs underground, the outflow into the Flem runs above ground. Due to the constant exchange, the entire water volume is renewed within 3 days and is always drinking water.

The Crestasee is only accessible on foot, from parking lot Trin Mulin (village center) leads a pushchair-suitable trail to the natural pool. At the lake there is a restaurant.

    Opening hours natural bath
In the summer season - depending on the weather about mid-May to
    about mid-September

    Admission natural bath
Adults 7 CHF, children 6 to 16 years 3 CHF

    Mittersee

    Highlight – Escursionismo

The jade green shimmering mountain lake with its clear water is a small oasis not far from the busy Fernpassstraße. It is easy to reach on hiking trails, if you don't mind the cool temperatures you will enjoy swimming in the clear mountain water.

    Pragser Wildsee

    Highlight – Escursionismo

The Pragser Wildsee lake has a unique location in the middle of the Pragser Dolomites and in the northern part of the Fanes-Sennes-Prags Nature Park. The geological origin of the "pearl of the Dolomite lakes", as it is often called, is due to the formation of a dam by a Murenabgang.
In the sagas he plays a role insofar as one could allegedly reach the underground realm of the Fanes with a boat. At the southern end of the lake, the Seekofel towers over the Pragser Wildsee. The summit can be reached in about 4 hours in a beautiful tour. Link of our tour: komoot.de/tour/8637873
