Crossing the gravel field, you enter the magical world of the high mountains. You left behind the sounds of cars, people and even cowbells several hours ago. Apart from the wind whistling down from the pass, a peaceful silence surrounds you. With newly gained energy you continue to hike over large boulders and gravel paths until—after one last climb—you're on the pass. On one side, you can see the path you have taken. On the other side, you can see Italy.
South of the famous Aletsch Glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps, lies the small Binn Valley. Away from the hustle and bustle of the Aletscharena, the Bernese Alps or the Matterhorn, this small valley offers peaceful mountain worlds and picturesque villages from another era. This multi-day circular hike takes you through the Binn Valley, across the Italian border to the Alpe Devoro Nature Park and back via the Lengtal. On a distance of around 90 kilometers (55 miles), you will climb 5,600 meters (18,000 feet) of altitude. The well-signposted hiking trails in the Binn Valley and on the Italian side are natural and follow old mule paths. Several scree fields, exposed sections, and rough terrain have to be overcome. If you already have experience in the Alps, you will love these places. If you are looking for a real Alpine adventure, this trek will make your dreams come true.
As the river Binna has cut a narrow and steep gorge between Breithorn and Eggerhorn towards the Rhone Valley, the Binntal was difficult to access for a long time and was thus spared from mass Alpine tourism. In the whole valley, there are only 200 people living in different villages, and you'll only find a handful of small hotels, holiday flats or mountain huts for accommodation. Since most of the Tours lead through secluded nature, you should always plan plenty of supplies, and you'll have the opportunity to buy groceries in Fiesch, Binn and Ernen. The valley is easily accessible by train and post bus from Fiesch. The full hike is designed to close in five, six or seven days. We have also planned several Tours in such a way that you can do them as single day hikes as well.
